FLOWER POWER: Kenzo Takada is one busy man. The Japanese fashion designer, who retired from his namesake house (now owned by LVMH), has designed a jewelry collection with the private atelier 10 Royale. Among guests who attended a cocktail event Wednesday night at the brand’s headquarters in an apartment located at 10 Royale were French fashion federation president Didier Grumbach and former Kenzo models Satya Oblet and Arnaud Lemaire.
The collection consists of 20 pieces of high jewelry in white gold, diamond and rubies, on the theme of “Floral blooming,” such as a ring with a poppy pattern.
Takada, now based in Monaco and Paris, is extending his design talents also to yacht decoration. “I enjoy working with the different craftsmen, and different know-how,” Takada said. A renaissance man, he also paints with oil and acrylic. His paintings are exhibited at the Jean-Jacques Dutko Gallery in Paris until Oct 27.
Royale’s chief executive Vianney D'Alencon, who is 26, reached out to Takada. “We have a couple decades of difference,” he noted, praising the designer, who is 73. He said 10 Royale, a tailor-made jewelry atelier, would create a high jewelry line with a different designer, artist or architect every year.
Speaking of tailor-made, model Oblet’s favorite tailor-made piece is cashmere coat that Takada designed for him. The model, who starred in Kenzo’s campaigns and shows, is the face of the beauty brand Taj and a Jaguar ambassador.
