ALL DESTINATIONS: Work and vacations were hot topics at the cocktail events Saturday night hosted by a trio of magazines: GQ, Details and M, which marked the relaunch of the men’s wear magazine.
Salvatore Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti said he would take a rare break after fashion week. “I’ll go to the seaside, which in June is definitely better than in August,” he said. A beaming Kean Etro looked very relaxed — and for good reason. “This morning we bought a plastic swimming pool, which we put on the terrace and the entire family moved outside. It’s great to see how it’s possible to create a magical, dreamy moment literally everywhere,” he said.
At M magazine’s cocktail, Brioni’s artistic director Jason Basmajian revealed some of the “real men” slated to model in the house’s presentation on Monday evening at Milan’s Palazzo della Triennale. They include polo player Eduardo Estrada, photographer and international man-about-town Jean Pigozzi, Italian actor Eros Galbiati and London art dealer David Gill.
Z Zegna’s Paul Surridge said he had a trip to Thailand lined up this summer, and, despite his minimum packing — a rucksack — he won’t be holding back. “There’s no budget, it’s an investment on my well-being,” he said. Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana, Anna Zegna, Bally designers Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler, Umberto Angeloni, Bottega Veneta’s Tomas Maier and Marco Bizzarri, and footwear designer Max Kibardin were also toasting M at Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone, in the courtyard of the exquisite Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi.
Heading to the barbecue area at GQ’s party in the garden of the Cubo party venue, designer Neil Barrett was on a high having wrapped up his open-air show a few hours earlier under threatening skies. “I was so relieved that the rain held out for us, we even had a second catwalk set up with a second set of lights, just in case,” he laughed. Gucci’s Frida Giannini said she would make a last-minute summer plan at the end of July. “I’m not in the mood to spend hours in front of the computer checking out destinations,” said the designer, who described her men’s spring collection, to be shown on Monday, as “a color explosion.” Other guests included Italo Zucchelli, John Varvatos, Michael Bastian and Dean and Dan Caten.
