CHEETAH CHEERS: The Zeitz Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funnels money into environmental projects, raised 175,000 pounds, or $226,000, in aid of the cheetah and other green projects. The foundation, founded by PPR director and Puma chairman Jochen Zeitz, held a dinner last week in London at the ZSL London Zoo in Regent’s Park, where Olympic gold medalist and Zeitz Foundation ambassador Usain Bolt played host to guests including Stella McCartney, Alasdhair Willis, Ron Arad, Michael Craig-Martin and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst.
Auction lots included Bolt’s running shoes, a Vivienne Westwood Couture gown and works by artists including Isaac Julien and Chris Ofili. Richard Branson donated a surprise lot — the chance to fly to his property Necker Island and run 100 meters against Branson himself — which eventually sold for 30,000 pounds, or $48,000. The money went toward the foundation’s efforts to protect habitats and ecosystems around the world and to the Zoological Society of London’s efforts to conserve the cheetah, African wild dogs and the landscapes that support them.
