TRADITION BOUND: Glamorous Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan added some front-row star power at the Paris presentation of compatriot designer Frankie Xie for his Jefen by Frankie label on Friday evening at the Grand Hotel. In a show melding ancient tradition and fashion, the designer sent out a run of feminine, Twenties-inspired silk and lace creations, some decorated with the embroidery of the Miao ethnic minority group inhabiting the Guizhou Province in southwest China.
Highlights included a pale blue silk slip patterned with old pink devoré velvet, a pistachio-hued silk skirt with car-wash pleats and a lemon drop-waist chiffon dress with a sash.
