CURTAINS FOR MACKIE: As lead costume designer for “The Carol Burnett Show,” Bob Mackie had his share of laughs and mishaps. “We could be glamorous one moment, horrible the next. It was just crazy!” the designer said.
Now Mackie is revealing some of what went on behind the scenes in making Burnett’s Scarlett O’Hara-inspired dress and other signature moments through a new DVD “The Carol Burnett Show: The Ultimate Collection,” which is being sold via Carolondvd.com. For those who need to see the real thing, the designer’s famous curtain-rod dress for Burnett’s interpretation of “Gone With the Wind” for her show can now be found at the Smithsonian.
