The former communications director at Balenciaga has been named Kering's director of fashion and luxury intelligence, a new post.

FASHION I.Q.: Kering has appointed Lionel Vermeil, formerly communications director at Balenciaga, its director of fashion and luxury intelligence, a new post effective this week.

The French group, parent of brands including Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney, said Vermeil would “provide analyses of fashion trends and new design talents to Kering and its brands.” He reports to Louise Beveridge, senior vice president of communications.

Before joining Balenciaga in 2007, Vermeil worked in communications and p.r. at Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier. His successor at Balenciaga has yet to be named.
