FREE PEOPLE SETS LAUNCH: Free People, the apparel label owned by Urban Outfitters Inc., is setting its sights across the pond. Come October, the label will launch an e-commerce Web site in the U.K., its first outside the U.S.
Kristal Hill, fashion director at Free People, said the move to launch in the U.K. was driven by the fact that the country is one of the label’s best markets on the brand’s U.S. e-commerce site, which ships to the U.K. Alongside launching a U.K. Web site, Free People will also launch its apparel, accessories and shoes in select U.K. department stores in the fall. And to build buzz for the U.K. e-commerce launch, the label is currently offering a special low shipping rate of $7.95 for British customers who shop the U.S. site.
