MINNIE MOMENT: Disney has tapped a slew of London-based designers to celebrate Minnie Mouse’s status as a cartoon fashion plate. Among those taking part in the project are designers Giles Deacon, Michael van der Ham and Richard Nicoll; milliner Piers Atkinson; accessories designers Katie Hillier, Lulu Guinness and Terry de Havilland, and jewelers Bunney, Tatty Devine and Husam el Odeh — the latter in collaboration with hair stylist Luke Hersheson. Meadham Kirchhoff, the design duo known for their off-the-wall runway shows, will also unveil a Minnie Mouse collaboration during their spring 2013 show.
All the designs will be showcased during London Fashion Week in September, before being auctioned off via eBay’s charity program, with proceeds going to the British Fashion Council/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation. The foundation, in association with U.K. Harper’s Bazaar, aims to nurture collaborations and foster relationships between talent in the fashion, film, music and art worlds. Marc Low, vice president of fashion and home for The Walt Disney Co. in the Europe, Middle East and Asia region, said, “London Fashion Week is the perfect stage for Disney, one of the world’s largest apparel brands, to put a spotlight on Minnie Mouse.”
