Nasty Gal Gets Revamp

The online retailer aimed at “fashion-forward girls” has unveiled a Web site redesign after completing a new round of investing from Index Ventures.

NASTY DOES IT BETTER: E-tailer Nasty Gal is readying for an overhaul. The online retailer aimed at “fashion-forward girls” has unveiled a Web site redesign after completing a new round of investing from Index Ventures, whose portfolio of retailers has included Net-a-Porter, Asos and Etsy.

Nasty Gal chief executive and founder Sophia Amoruso said she wanted to find the right fit for her customer's “intriguing and audacious sense of style.”

“For me, it wasn’t about raising capital, but about finding the right partner. Danny Rimer and Index were an obvious fit: the stars aligned and my decision was an easy one,” said Amoruso.

Danny Rimer, a partner at Index Ventures, called Amoruso an exceptional leader and entrepreneur.  "We look forward to helping her and the rest of the outstanding management team in this next phase of growth to fully capture the opportunity she uncovered starting in the thrift stores and flea markets of San Francisco,” he said.

As part of a major redesign, the company plans to roll out changes in the next month, starting with a new, “effortlessly cool” logo. In mid-April the retailer will launch branded editorial and a redesigned homepage featuring look book shoots, collaborations, contests and editorialized trend stories.  The blog section of the new site will host “Sophia’s Corner,” where Amoruso will comment on current events and offer style notes.
