NEW SPACE: A new multifunctional space will bow in Milan on Jan. 13 with a men’s show by designer Fabio Quaranta, his first in the city. Located on Via Calabiana, in an area made trendy by companies such as Bottega Veneta, Gibò and Fondazione Prada, and in a former paper mill, the space will offer temporary or long-term showrooms as well as restaurants and also will hold cultural events. The Calabiana project is supported by a partnership between White trade show founders Massimiliano Bizzi and his wife, Brenda, and fashion veteran and entrepreneur Marina Salomon.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity in the middle of a crisis,” said Salomon, whose own fashion company Altana produces children’s wear lines for brands including Gucci, Moncler and Dondup. “In Italy, there is fear for the future now. It’s an attitude towards life and work, but with the Bizzis, we share a sense of freedom and desire to build something. It’s a creative project, it stems from fashion but this can be mixed with other excellences, such as design or digital projects.”

The investment, made through Salomon’s Alchimia holding, totaled between 9 and 10 million euros, or $11.7 million to $13 million at current exchange.

Daks London, Collection Privée, Hapter, Faustdrang, Cangiari and Aqua Bland are some of the brands that have secured showrooms on Via Calabiana. Bizzi underscored that the project is distinct and separated from White as a new company, called Calabiana Srl, was specifically founded for this venture.
