STUMP TOWN: President Barack Obama capped off a night of New York fundraising on Thursday with a fashionable stop. After a stop ABC Carpet & Home, the president headed uptown to the home of White House interior designer Michael Smith and HBO executive James Costos for a fundraiser co-hosted by Tory Burch, Glen Senk, Michael Kors and James LaForce, among other notable campaign boosters such as Harvey Weinstein. Though Obama has made a habit of carrying a tune at similar stops as of late, he decided against any harmonizing on Thursday, citing one attendee in particular.
“I also want to announce because John Legend is here, I will not sing tonight,” the president joked in his opening remarks, according to a transcript provided by the White House press office.
“Don’t steal my job,” Legend said before the president’s brief speech, which included some laughs at the expense of his prospective GOP rivals.
“I recommend you watch the recent debates,” Obama advised guests. “We’re thinking about just running those as advertisements... little snippets, without commentary. We’ll just sort of — here you go, this is what they said a while back.”
