SOUND ADVICE: With fashion week a week away, the CFDA’s Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb e-mailed the fashion crowd to remind them to keep everything in check. In addition to emphasizing the importance of taking the time to recharge and refuel, the duo noted that models under the age of 16 “do not belong on the runway and we ask everyone to follow this belief.” Lest there be any confusion, the e-mail referenced the need to adhere to labor laws (which could be downloaded). There was also mention of the mandate that models under the age of 18 need proper documents and schedules.
Von Furstenberg and Kolb also referred to the fact that Bethann Hardison was honored at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards for “championing diversity in the fashion industry. It was a powerful moment in which Bethann challenged the industry to take responsibility and commit to a greater representation of diversity on the runway this season.” To avoid any room for guesswork, a link to the Diversity Coalition’s guidelines on racial diversity was provided.
To try to keep models' energy levels up, the farm-to-table restaurant chain Dig Inn has partnered with the CFDA Health Initiative this season to offer CFDA members discounted nutrient-rich catering packages for fittings, castings and backstage pick-me-ups. Models walking for Prabal Gurung, Sophie Theallet, SUNO's Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty, Johnathan Simkhai and Uniqlo will have raw cold-pressed juices, organic tofu salad and other Dig Inn-provided specialties to choose from before or after they hit the runway.
