TOMMY AND DEE STEP UP: Tommy Hilfiger and his wife, Dee, have been named to the board of Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization. Each of them has a child affected by autism.
Bob and Suzanne Wright, cofounders of Autism Speaks, noted that the Hilfigers have been doing important work on behalf of people with autism and their families for a long time. They expect that their involvement will give a lift to the organization’s efforts to increase awareness and advocate on behalf of those affected by the disorder.
Last December, Dee Hilfiger served as cochair and Tommy Hilfiger was honored at “A Funny Affair,” a benefit for Autism Speaks and New York Center for Autism. The event raised $1.3 million for autism research and services for families. The Hilfigers and the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation recently awarded Autism Speaks significant grants for 2012.
