Among the sea of traditional shoes at the inaugural men’s presentation in London a few styles stood out for spring ‘13. In addition to standard loafers and oxfords done in brown and black leather, next season will bring a few bright colors and daring designs.
Classic styles were given a makeover at Topman Design, where high-top brogues with cutouts in hues of orange, white and black made for a bold reinterpretation of a traditional look. Such a twist also was apparent in the Harrys of London designs for E. Tautz, where oxfords were shown in statement colors such as fuchsia and royal blue.
And fashion and athletic looks collided in a plethora of sporty styles. Case in point: The monochromatic high-tops at Meadham Kirchhoff, shown in neon yellow and opalescent periwinkle, might better suited for a night on the town than a run in the park. Likewise, Katie Eary’s high-top white sneakers adorned with gold embellishments added a fashion edge to a sporty classic.
Additionally, the smoking slipper was electrified on the runway at Richard James, where the silhouette featured a touch of sparkle and eye-catching colors such as lime green and lilac. At Rake, the style was given a preppy twist, done in velvet and embroidered with palm trees, lobsters and other emblems.
