New York Shoe of the Day: Derek Lam

The designer’s pointy-toe wedge breathed new life into the popular fall silhouette.

The ubiquitous pointy toe continues for fall, but the best takes appear instantly fresh. While Derek Lam chose the silhouette for all his minimal fall looks, he elevated the classic look with a stark wedge, PVC and leather piping. The style certainly played to the designer’s affinity for geometric shapes, which showed up on the collection’s standout dresses and separates. The low-rise ankle bootie — with the PVC and leather combo — was both forward thinking and totally wearable.
