Rodarte spring '13

Kate and Laura Mulleavy do not shy away from the mixed bag. In fact, the duo behind Rodarte has a knack for mixing materials and references, as was apparent on Tuesday’s runway. For spring, corseted leather pants and fringed vests made a chic/punk statement and were interspersed with sophisticated lattice and embroidered looks. But the sporty, color-blocked, chunky sandals really stole the show. With neoprene, mesh insets and wide patent straps, many of the shoes had an athletic bent, while some with iridescent panels even verged on “Transformer”- or “Tron”-like. Best of all, though, was this graphic tri-colored sandal, which combines several elements, yet still strikes a balance of beautiful form and function.
