“There is something inherently easy and essential about a slip-on sandal,” said Marjan Malakpour, one half of the sister stylist/design duo behind footwear, handbag and accessory label Newbark.

Carried at retailers such as Net-a-porter.com, Just One Eye and The Line, the Los Angeles-based, high-contemporary footwear label (known for supple moccasins, mules and loafers worn by Ashley Olsen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Halle Berry) is banking on three sleek slides for its new capsule collection, dubbed The Roma Project.

“We love taking a more casual idea and updating it in luxury materials,” added Maryam Malakpour.

The multiple iterations of the sandals retail from $295 to $395, with a special double-strap, micro-Swarovski style topping out at $950.

The collection is very much in step with the current penchant for backless footwear and could soon appear on the Malakpours’ clients — such as Shakira, Heidi Klum and Courteney Cox — when it hits stores in September.

“As stylists, our designs always come from what we’re searching for to complete the look. These can be dressed up or down, but have a certain effortlessness we’re drawn to right now,” said Marjan Malakpour, who illustrated the point by wearing her basic black sandals with a feminine dress at a recent preview in New York, while her sister paired them with broken-in denim.
