LOS ANGELES TIMES REBOOT: The Los Angeles Times has launched a redesigned Web site featuring a streamlined layout, fully responsive design and ad content to suit readers on any device; almost half of the Times’ traffic comes from mobile users. Site navigation has moved to the left, allowing the screen to appear less cluttered and more visuals-heavy, with photo and video galleries embedded within each story.
Each page also features an endless scroll that allows readers to select content they would like to see. A new Neighborhoods section allows readers to select a specific area of the city from a map, then get all the news stories geocoded for that area, as well as restaurant reviews and crime stats. The navigation bar also includes a Visual Browse filter that lets readers peruse top stories via a page filled with images rather than text lines. There is also an increased social emphasis; each story features a button that allows readers to share a brief summary via social media, contact reporters and follow their posts.
