“My inspiration was New Wave,” said Francelle Daly working with Nars Cosmetics at 3.1 Phillip Lim. “There’s a small reference of the Eighties. The Banshees — and there’s a little bit of Nina Hagen in there.” Using Brow Perfector and Matte Eyeshadow, depending on the model’s hair color, Daly created a square brow that was tapered at the end. Keeping the skin natural, she applied Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and covered any imperfections with Radiant Creamy Concealer. Eyelashes were curled with Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara and cheeks were contoured with Nico or Zen Blush according to the girl’s skin tone. “It’s a quick look,” Day said. “It’s mostly about the brow, but we didn’t want to go too punk. We wanted to do a modern take on that.”

Keeping with the Eighties theme, Paul Hanlon for Moroccanoil referenced photographers like Bruce Weber and Herb Ritts for the hair look. “Every girl is different,” said Hanlon. “But they all have the same feeling.” First, Hanlon applied Volumizing Mousse throughout the hair and then brushed it through the ends. Next, he sprayed Root Boost on the roots at the front and top of the hair, and dried it with a flat brush upward and away from the face. Key to the hair look, Treatment Light was used to define the separated texture. Next, Intense Curl Cream was used at the top of the head to create strong, defined waves. Then, to hold the waves in place, Luminous Hairspray was applied and dried with a diffuser. To finish, Glimmer Shine Spray was sprayed throughout the hair to give it a wet appearance. “It has a street-urban texture and an Eighties feel to it,” he said. “It’s almost a little bit sweaty.”

Reflecting the mood of the collection, Elisa Ferri painted one coat of Nars Crossroads on nails, which is a collaboration between the brand and Phillip Lim, due out in August.
