Front Row at Jean Paul Gaultier

Catherine Deneuve, Rossy de Palma and Amanda Lear were joined by surprise guest Abel Ferrara.

CINEMA VÉRITÉ: The front row at Jean Paul Gaultier’s show felt like a reality show waiting to happen. Sandwiched together were Catherine Deneuve; Spanish actresses Paz Vega and Rossy de Palma; Amanda Lear, the former Salvador Dalí muse-turned-camp disco diva; French stand-up comic Florence Foresti, and Abel Ferrara.

What was the “Bad Lieutenant” director doing at a fashion show? “He’s a friend of mine, I mean why wouldn’t I be here? It’s like you know, just supporting the locals. I’m living here now, so it’s not like I flew here from New York, although I woulda flew here from the moon for Jean Paul. I woulda came from Mars to be here,” Ferrara rasped in his signature Bronx drawl.

His appetite for sulfurous subject matter appears to be intact: Ferrara said he was planning a film based on the Dominique Strauss-Kahn sex scandal, starring Gérard Depardieu — who’s been getting his share of news headlines lately — as the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund.

Ferrara’s neighbor interrupted the conversation. “I’m sorry, it’s my first time here, was that Catherine Deneuve?” the young woman asked, pointing at the French screen legend. That prompted a reporter to ask: Was she Ferrara’s daughter? “It’s my girlfriend, bro, what kind of filthy question is that?” Ferrara exclaimed in outrage. “My father is much younger,” the woman noted with a smirk.
