BIRTHDAY BASH: “I created the house just after couture, and all I ever wanted was for it to have a happy spirit, to make people happy,” smiled nonagenarian Chloé founder Gaby Aghion, speaking at the opening cocktail for the house’s “Chloé: Attitudes” exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo on Friday night.

An upbeat crowd, including Dolores Chaplin, Anja Rubik, Christa Theret, Lou Doillon and Marie-Ange Casta, packed into the show to pore over the retrospective’s creations, ad campaigns and sketches spanning 60 years before swelling excitedly around Aghion and Karl Lagerfeld as they entered the space.

Asked what he was most looking forward to about the exhibit, Lagerfeld, who was the house’s head designer from 1966 to 1983 and 1992 to 1997, said: “I’m not really into archives, so it will be fun to see. I don’t keep documents. In any case, Gaby Aghion told me the years she worked with me were the best years.”

Lagerfeld wore a smart striped shirt and matching tie by Hilditch & Key for the occasion.

Dressed in a gold sequin dress by Chloé, Arizona Muse, who was glad to have a night off after walking numerous shows over the past few weeks, said of the house’s style: “For me, it’s so easy, so Parisian.”

The party continued in the museum’s basement, where an industrial space had been transformed to resemble a modern discotheque, with raised gray-colored lounge areas sprinkled with Chloé-pink cushions to lie on, and gold and silver balloons covering the ceiling. Creative director Clare Waight Keller pushed her way through the mob to the stage area, where HollySiz front woman Cécile Cassel (sister of Vincent) wowed the crowd, rocking out in a pink bustier jumpsuit. Another free-spirited young lady took to the stage for the main act: Victoria Hesketh, aka Little Boots. “Je suis Little Boots,” she yelled to the jubilant throng. “Joyeux anniversaire, Chloé.”
